92 : 365 Home Away from Home

We arrived at our third and final stop in California.

My reader didn’t take long to find a home away from home.

Project Note: I am over three weeks behind on posting photos.  I continue to take them but as far as posting I am still in California!  No big deal. I know. It’s my project. I know!

And here’s what else I know. It is more fun for me when I am posting the photos on the day or day after I take them. So, I’m not going to try to show all that we did on our trip. It was fabulous but I’m just going to pick one photo for each day and move along.

Here’s something else.

I didn’t realize until last night that I had this weird disappointment swirling around the photos from my trip.

Twenty years ago, I went to England.  I had this idea that I would be different when I was there because… I was in England.  Guess what?  I was me.

I had the same thing happen to me on this trip to California.  I thought I would be a different photographer because I was surrounded by fog and dramatic coastlines.  But, as it turned out, I was me.  I took the kind of photos of my family that I take at home, but in California.

  1. How is that a disappointment? I’d love to take pictures like yours eith this level of emotion and great composition. 🙂

    1. Thank you, Marcin. I appreciate your kind words.

I didn’t realize I was disappointed right away. And, now, it’s more of a recognition of who I am as a photographer.

  2. I have similar frustrations of not being to capture great landscape shots too often.

But when I do – they don’t mean as much to me.

I have a few printed out, but when I look at them I think "Just some nice view" and move on. There’s no such connection as with people shots.

But I am still frustrated I can’t hang around on hilltops in dramatic weather with great light. As if it was more about hiking than the pictures themselves.

    1. I usually feel like if it’s a landscape without anyone in it I may as well by a postcard. And I don’t have the interest in landscapes to time them right and have the right lens for them and so on.
