Waking Up

When she wakes up from a nap, I think, “Oh, no.” I try to clean a few juice spills and put away some clothes while she sleeps.  Her little voice calling out means that my efforts to get something done will have to wait.

Then I open the door and see her.  The sticky floor can wait.

Highlights

Looking back on the photos from our beach trip is like watching the highlights from a football or hockey game: all the beauty and fun without all the ordinary stuff in between.  (I do like to get some ordinary moments. But even then, I like to make them look beautiful.)

I’m finding life very busy with my all four kids home and my baby running up, down and all around.  I have so many photos I’d love to edit and share.  I’ll do it a little at a time.

40|40 Beach Birthday

My birthday was on the last day of a long vacation to the beach.  We spent the morning enjoying the surf and then packed up and drove home.

The first week of our trip we spent with the “big” family: my parents, brothers, sister and everyone’s kids.  The second part of the vacation was with my own “little” family for a few more nights.  There were too many photos from the whole vacation to chose just one.  (Last night I thought, “I’ll just email a few photos to my family to remind them of our fun time.”  I sent over forty.)  I decided to go with these four as a series from my fortieth birthday since it was turning forty that inspired this year long project of Forty Friday Photos.

39|40 Memorial Day

These three photos were taken on Sunday at our church Memorial Day service. This year it honored World War II veteran, Walter Williamson.  His daughter, Amy, is receiving the flag.

I took photos last year.  The same ceremony took place, but I’d never seen it before and I didn’t know they were going to give the flag to a family member.  I went to the back of the congregation and waited to get a shot of the color guard leaving. I missed the most meaningful part of the ceremony.

This year I knew what was going to happen and was in the right place.  I’m happy to have captured these moments for Mr. Williamson’s family.
