45 : 365 Again!

Camera Talk

On Thursday, the 5D classic that I bought used in January broke.  The mirror inside came undone.  And so, I am back to using the 7D – which is a great camera.  I fell for the 5D’s full frame and how my 50mm lens looked on it.  I overlooked some of it’s flaws – specifically speed of focus and continuous shooting.

This photo is the result of the 7D’s continuous shooting and much faster focus.

I want to go on about gear but you’re getting sleepy aren’t you? Me too. Goodnight.

44 : 365 Dish Duty

I started making the older girls do the dishes every day.  Avery unloads.  Savanna loads.  They both complain.

I used think of it as their job but do it for them if they weren’t nearby, weren’t in good moods or it was easier to do it myself.  In other words, I did the dishes.

This summer I noticed how many more dishes get used when everyone is home all day and how very capable my girls are.  Now when dishes are piling up, I call the girls and keep after them until they get the job done.  There is squirming and whining but eventually it gets done – and not by me.

There is a little light in the tunnel of discontent.

Avery says, “Do you want to help with the dishes?”

“Yes! I do!” chirps Augusta.

43 : 365 Carousel

We spent the day at Kennywood Park.  This is the littlest’s favorite ride, she calls it the horseys.  This was her first ride of the day.

While her face doesn’t show it, she was loving it.  She got off and said, “Again!”  And so we rode again. And again.

She’s sitting on my lap as I write this and says, “I want to go back there!”

42 : 365 Good Company

When I decided to start my year long project – board my little boat – I imagined floating along on my own.  I was feeling a little foolish for taking on a project in the midst of a busy life with four kids.  But I said, “Join me.” I didn’t think anyone would.

My sister, Maureen, called and said she was going to do photos every day with me.  Good news. Then my long time friend, Victoria,  who helps me see clearly after making me laugh at myself, said, “I am going to write a paragraph every day.”  I was thrilled.  After another few days, my high school friend, Stephanie, said, “I’m joining. Where should I post my poems?”  And then another long lost high school friend, Rachel, started poems every day too.

Every day, I look forward to seeing Maureen’s photos and reading my friends’ poems and prose.  I love being on this little boat with my friends.  Do I think about quitting?  I do not.  At all.

You can see what my fellow sailors are up to.

Maureen’s photos.

Victoria’s paragraphs.

Stephanie’s Sixes.

Rachel’s poems.

Feel like boarding our little vessel? Hop on.

(Did I take my kids’ toy to a little pond? Why, yes I did. I was inspired by the little person with the glasses because she looks like me. Another reason to love a 365 – doing silly stuff in search of a daily photo.)

41 : 365 For the Love of Swimming

July’s blog circle is here. It’s all about love. Follow the links until you find yourself right back where you started.

It has been our swimmiest summer by far.  It is the sledding of summer.  It is the way to enjoy the season.  And instead of boots, hats and snow pants we have suits, towels and goggles.

It’s time for us to go to the pool!

Follow our circle to Nina’s blog Story in Colors.

39 : 365 Come On In

Every now an then a shot of all four of them is in order.

This is from our trip to Raystown Lake (central PA) on Friday.

I decided at the beginning of this project that I would take Sunday off.  It has been great to consciously leave my camera on the shelf one day a week.  I still see things on Sundays I would like to photograph like kids running through puddles and making mud pies.  I watch without my camera knowing that tomorrow will be full of beautifully lit moments too.
